The First SWISMUN Since 2019

Dear MUN Directors, Student Leaders and Delegates,

It is my honor to invite you all to attend our Shen Wai International School Model United Nations (SWISMUN) Conference 2024, which will be held on June 7th to 9th at the Shen Wai International School campus at 29 Baishi 3rd Road, Nanshan, Shenzhen, Guangdong, China.

SWIS hosted its first MUN conference in 2019 with the goal of spreading peace through international diplomacy, in accordance with the core principle of MUN. This first conference was a resounding success, but the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted plans and resulted in a 4-year hiatus. In spite of this, the SWISMUN team has never faltered and continued to grow through these challenges, laying the foundations for this year’s conference to become an environment which fosters the problem solving, collaboration and critical thinking skills of delegates, skills which are essential to face the challenges that our modern world presents.

SWISMUN will adhere to THIMUN style procedures, which will ensure delegates arrive prepared for an engaging and constructive debate, contributing well-researched ideas to the discussion and devising innovative solutions to issues presented. Unique to SWISMUN is the presence of multiple historical committees. At SWISMUN, we believe it is vital that delegates not only familiarize themselves with current events, but also learn from the successes and failures of those that came before. The present is shaped by the past, which means learning the past is necessary to understand the present and change the future.

This year, SWISMUN’s theme is “Restoring Global Stability”. In the current era, a multitude of crises have emerged to threaten international peace and stability. Various wars and conflicts have erupted across the globe, while the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic persist across the world. Across many of the time periods covered by the historical committees, this phrase remains true, as humanity has faced countless different crises and cataclysms over the centuries. The committees offered are the General Assembly (GA), Security Council (SC), Historical World Health Assembly (WHA), Historical Human Rights Council (HRC) and Historical Security Council (HSC).
